Voices from the Block
Discover the stories, bold ideas, and real impact emerging from our programs. Community change does not happen in isolation; it grows from shared responsibility, creative exchange, and collective action. These stories remind us that livable communities are built by people who care enough to imagine differently and act collectively. As Angela Davis reminds us, “I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept.” That spirit of transformation lives here, on every block, in every voice, and through every act of courage and collaboration.
Visibility, Voice, and Vision: UDL at the 18th Annual Harlem Fine Arts Show (HFAS)
Empowering Lives
The Urban Design League (UDL) team attended the 18th Annual Harlem Fine Arts Show (HFAS) from February 20–22, 2026. HFAS brings together contemporary artists and collectors, showcasing cultural ideas while creating opportunities for economic, educational, and professional growth.
For young artists, attending HFAS is transformative. They gain exposure to representation, mentorship, and networks that inspire creativity and expand their vision. Highlights included a panel with Pascale Sablan, acclaimed architect, activist, and author of GREATNESS: Diverse Designers of Architecture, who spoke on amplifying BIPOC voices and the power of design to foster equity and community well-being.
